Abhang - The Unstoppable (An introduction)

Jagadguru Tukaram Maharaj, known as one of the foremost saints in the glorious tradition of Maharashtra, has composed over 60 crore Abhangs in praise of Lord Vitthal. 

Jagadguru Tukaram Maharaj's abhangs enjoy the distinctive honour of being referred to as 'Vaishnava Veda' owing to its pristine spiritual content. 

Mahatma Sri Sri Krishnapremi Swamigal (Sri Anna) in his abhang 'Udaara Gunavantaa' says 'there is no guru comparable to Sant Tukaram and with him as our Guru, we are free of all worries in this Samsaara.

| प्रेमा म्हणे संसार चिंता नाही |

|| तुकाराम सारिखा सद्गुरु नाही ||

Composed in Marathi, the Abhangs of Sant Tukaram Maharaj find a place of pride in namasankeerthans across the country. Only a handful of that priceless treasure composed by Sant Tukaram in the 17th century (around 400 years back) is available to us as of today.

With the blessings of Mahatma Sri Sri Krishnapremi Swamigal (Sri Anna), this blog is an humble attempt to preserve and continue the glorious tradition of the bhakti movement in Maharashtra.

This blog intends to make these glorious compositions of Jagadguru Tukaram Maharaj accessible to one and all, especially the millennials for whom the primary language of communication and comprehension is not Marathi. 

As a beginning, we will provide the bhaavaartha (essence) for select 'Charans' (paragraphs) from Sant Tukaram Maharaj's abhangs in two languages -- English and Tamil.

These Charans are handpicked by Sri Pundalik Maharaj Dehukar, a descendant of Jagadguru Tukaram Maharaj.

The essence of these Abhangs have been explained in a profound, yet easy to understand style, by Mumbai Sri Srinivasa Bhagavatar. 

We intend to post one bhaavaartha every day in English and Tamil and we are hopeful that these compositions become guiding principles in the lives of the many who will follow and share this blog day-after-day.
